Shavot was established to reduce gender inequality in Israel by strengthening adolescent girls’ self-esteem and confidence, and by equipping them with the tools they need to realize their aspirations and full potential.
Shavot operates leadership programs across Israel that empower girls to develop long-term self-worth through early experiences in goal setting, self-reflection, and exposure to inspiring female role models.
Participants learn to identify opportunities for growth in failure, discover their inner strengths, define personal goals, and build actionable plans to achieve them.
Shavot’s programs take place in schools throughout the country and are facilitated by female undergraduate students who receive educational scholarships in return for their work.

During adolescence, young girls’ self-esteem and confidence declines by some 30%. While boys exhibit themselves as ‘confident’, ‘fearless’ and ‘adventurous’, girls begin to self-describe as ‘tense’, ‘shy’, ‘worried’ and ‘oppressed’ (Kay and Shipman, 2014).
While boys tend to attribute lack of success to external circumstances, young girls will be much more inclined to blame themselves. This tendency of self-blame has a negative impact on girls’ self-esteem and is correlated with refraining from action out of fear of failure (Licht and Dweck, 1986
Through rounding up, every credit card purchase will be rounded up to the nearest shekel and the agorot will be donated to programs advancing girls’ equality.
For example: Did you buy something for 9.90 NIS? You paid 10 and donated only 10 agorot. The average monthly donation is only 5 shekels!
